General

What is the Image Map app?

Image Map is a web part that lets your turn any image into an interactive element. You can define hotspots on an image that reveal tooltips, link to content, or guide users through information directly on your SharePoint page.

Where can I use it?

The web part is available for modern SharePoint Online pages and is compatible with Viva Connections, allowing it to be viewed inside Microsoft Teams.

Is it responsive / mobile-friendly?

Yes. The web part automatically adjusts for desktop, tablet, and mobile displays.

Configuration

How do I set it up?

Add the Image Map web part to your SharePoint page, then upload or select the image you want to showcase. You can define interactive areas using standard shapes such as rectangles, ellipses, or create a custom shape by adding polygon shapes of your choosing. Each hotspot can trigger an action, such as opening a link or displaying a tooltip.

Editing

How do I edit an existing Image Map?

To edit an existing Image Map, open the SharePoint page in edit mode and select the Image Map web part. From there, you can select existing hotspots to move, resize, or reconfigure them.

What kinds of hotspot are supported?

You can define interactive areas using standard shapes such as rectangles, ellipses, or custom polygons.

Can I change the appearance of hotspot areas?

Yes. You can customize both the area border color and the highlight color (the color displayed when a user hovers or focuses on a hotspot) to match your page design or accessibility preferences.

Can I add tooltips to hotspots?

Yes. Each hotspot can display a tooltip, providing short explanatory text when users hover over or tap the hotspot.

Can I adjust where tooltips appear?

Yes. Tooltip positioning can be adjusted so the information appears in the most appropriate location relative to the hotspot, helping improve clarity and readability.

Can I edit or move hotspots after they’ve been configured?

Yes. You can select, drag, resize, or delete existing hotspots at any time. Updates take effect once the page is republished.

Is there a free trial available?
