Step 4: Connecting Google Tag Manager to SharePoint

Once you've connected your Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics instances, you'll finally want to connect Tag Manager to SharePoint.

This configuration guide is for Site Analytics version 1.18.0.4. Please ensure you have updated the app to the latest version.

Note: The SharePoint Administrator role will be required when connecting Google Tag Manager to the Site Analytics app in SharePoint.

  1. Navigate to your Google Tag Manager container and in the top navigation, click Admin.
  2. Copy the Container ID, which starts with 'GTM' and is located in the top right.Site Analytics - GTM Container ID
  3. Navigate to your SharePoint site where the Site Analytics app has been added.
  4. Click the Settings icon on the SharePoint suite bar and navigate to Site contents.
  5. In Site contents, a configuration panel for the Site Analytics extension will appear at the foot of the page. Click on the Configure button.
  6. A property pane will appear, allowing you to connect the Site Analytics app to your GTM Container. Paste your Container ID in the GTM Container ID field.Site Analytics - Configuration (1)
  7. Click on Save. The Site Analytics app will validate your configuration.
