Configuring the weather widget
How to enable and configure the weather feature using an OpenWeather API key
The Welcome app includes an optional weather widget that displays local weather conditions within the web part. To enable this feature, editors must acquire an API key from the third-party provider OpenWeather.

Pre-requisites
To display weather in the Welcome app, you’ll need:

An OpenWeather API key

Editor permissions on the page containing the Welcome app
You can obtain a free API key from OpenWeather via their pricing page.
Note: the weather feature is optional and only appears on the web part if configured.
How to enable the weather widget

Navigate to the page where the Welcome app is added.

Edit the page and select the Welcome web part.

In the web part property pane, scroll to the Weather section.

Enable the weather widget toggle.

Enter your OpenWeather API key into the provided field.

Save and republish the page.
The widget will now appear in the Welcome layout and display weather data based on the user’s location or configured defaults.
Note: the API key is stored at the individual app level and must be entered for each instance of the Welcome app where the weather widget is used.
Available settings
When configuring the weather widget, you can adjust the following options:
- OpenWeather API Key – Required to fetch weather data from OpenWeather.
- Default weather location – The fallback location used to display weather information if user location detection is unavailable.
- Unit system – Choose between Celsius or Fahrenheit.
Usage limits
OpenWeather’s Free plan offers up to 1,000,000 API calls per month. If your organization expects high traffic or encounters limitations:

Consider upgrading to a paid plan to ensure uninterrupted service.

Note: Accelerator 365 does not manage or bill for third-party weather services. Any upgrades are handled directly with OpenWeather.
