Step 3: Connecting Google Tag Manager to Google Analytics

Once you've created the default custom dimensions in Google Analytics, you'll next want to connect your Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics instances together.

This configuration guide is for Site Analytics version 1.18.0.4. Please ensure you have updated the app to the latest version.

  1. Navigate to your Google Analytics property and click on the Admin button located in the bottom left.
  2. Under the Data collection and modification section, click on Data streams.
  3. Select Web and enter your SharePoint URL and a Stream name.
  4. Disable the Enhanced measurement option. For accuracy, the Site Analytics app is built to send its own events rather than rely on automatic events sent by Google.Site Analytics - Disable enhanced measurement
  5. Click on Create and continue in the top right.
  6. The Web stream details panel will appear. Copy the Measurement ID value for the Data stream.Site Analytics - Measurement ID
  7. Navigate to your Google Tag Manager Container.
  8. Click on Variables in the left navigation and locate the variable titled 'GA4 Measurement ID'.
  9. Click on the Value field and replace with the copied Measurement ID value from Google Analytics.Site Analytucs - GTM GA4 Measurement ID
  10. Then, press Save to complete the connection.
  11. Finally, click on the blue Submit button in the top right followed by Publish.
